Bridgewater Man Dies After Being Struck In Liverpool Parking Lot

An 83-year old man from Bridgewater has died after being struck by a car in Liverpool.

Queens County District RCMP say the accident occurred in a parking lot on Queens Place Drive around 5:00pm Saturday evening.

Paramedics, Liverpool Volunteer Fire Department and the RCMP attended.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the vehicle, a white Ford Taurus, was uninjured.

RCMP continue to investigate.

Bridgewater: Paths Will Be Extended to Glen Allan Drive, Generations Active Park

Lunenburg West MLA Mark Furey was on site at a local park in Bridgewater Friday afternoon to announce an extension of two paths.

There will be a 500 metre extension to the path at Glen Allan Park that will connect to Generations Active Park.

It will start at roughly at 8 Streatch Drive.

Sandy Mair-Dodman, the Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture in Bridgewater, says it will be a barrier-free gravel path.

She says construction will start in mid-October.

Atlantic Lottery Recalls Seven Breakopen Games Due To Printer Process Error

A printer process error by a vendor has led Atlantic Lottery to recall seven Breakopen games.

ALC says discrepancies between the ticket face and barcode information means not all prizes are being claimed.

The error affects at most one percent of the Breakopen tickets, and unaffected product will remain on sale.

The 55-plus games are coming to Lunenburg County in less than a month and there are a record number of participants.

A member of the organizing committee, Carroll Randall, says it's great news.

"We are right around the 800 mark. They had 740-something last year. That's the highest that's ever happened."

The games will be played all over the South Shore at venues such as Queens Place Emera Centre, Michelin Social Club, and the Pine Grove horseshoe pits.

This year's games include golf, pickleball and scrabble to name a few.

Lunenburg: Independent Water Test Disputes Stella Bowles' Results

Lunenburg's mayor is refuting the results of water quality tests done on the town's harbour.
 
Readings reported by Stella Bowles earlier this week, show water quality as being so dangerous even contact with skin should be avoided.

Results of the town's testing showed the harbour water was within the safe limits for recreational use.

Rachel Bailey says water samples taken August 9 were tested by an independent, provincially approved lab.

Study Calls For Abolition Of The Weekly Setting Of Gas Prices

The Atlantic Institute for Market Studies has come out with a new study on the effect of price controls for gasoline on consumers.

President and C-E-O Marco Navarro-Genie says the study found the weekly setting of gas prices has been a bad deal for consumers.

According to the study, drivers in New Brunswick have paid $15 million more than they otherwise would have since 2006 and consumers in Nova Scotia have paid out $36 million more.

 

 

Hardware Failure Knocks Out Some Government Services

Some government services were disrupted for several hours Wednesday because of a hardware glitch.

E-mails to and from government, Access Nova Scotia services and the novascotia.ca website were affected and some payments from Community Services and the Maintenance Enforcement Program were also delayed.

A government spokesperson says the disruption was caused when a port failed on the router that links those systems.

The internal systems still worked, but they couldn't connect to the Internet.

West Pubnico, Big Tancook Island To Receive Lieutenant Governor's Community Spirit Award

A Yarmouth County village will receive the Lieutenant Governor's Community Spirit Award.

The honour is going to West Pubnico for its exemplary civic and community spirit.

The area was chosen by a selection committee based criteria like power, strength and diversity.

Charlene LeBlanc, Community Development Officer for the Municipality of Argyle nominated West Pubnico after the success of the Chase the Ace event last year.

LeBlanc says the award is well deserved.

Lobster Pot Lottery Committee Says A Big 'Thank You'

The Shelburne County Lobster Pot Lottery is celebrating one year of supporting local charities.

Organizers say it was a successful inaugural year thanks to the support and generosity of Shelburne County residents.

This year the lottery supported the Roseway Hospital Auxiliary and the Hospital Foundation, , Shelburne Association Supporting Inclusion, Shelburne County Senior Services, and Sou'West Nova Transit.

Committee member Brenda Acker says money raised from the lottery stays in the community and benefits local residents.
