A Lunenburg County family lost their home and a beloved pet in a house fire this morning.
Riverport fire department answered arrived to find the house fully involved at around 8 a.m.
Fire Chief Craig Cook says the initial fire was put out quickly but he says firefighters were on the scene until early afternoon.
“We spent probably another three hours just doing overhaul,” he says, “which is cleaning stuff out of the way and checking wall cavities…for fire extension”
The man and woman living in the home escaped in their pajamas however the home was a complete loss.
They also lost the family dog.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
The two are staying with family members while they figure out next steps.
