The warden of the Municipality of Shelburne believes incentive pay is the key to attracting doctors to rural Nova Scotia.
The province announced four new nurse practitioners and family practice nurses are coming to South West Nova Scotia.
Roger Taylor says it’s good news but more needs to be done.
“People are motivated by money and to pay doctors to work in under-serviced areas is a proven method. It works up North and it’s what the Province of Nova Scotia should be doing.”
Taylor says a lot of areas in rural Nova Scotia are in need of doctors and the province should consider the option.
He says Shelburne currently only has one primary health-care physician.
Taylor says that needs to change sooner rather than later.
