The Canadian Red Cross is helping a couple who lost their apartment and belongings when fire destroyed one of the most historic buildings in Barrington Passage.
Yesterday the Red Cross arranged emergency purchases of clothing, food and other basics for the man and woman, who are staying with relatives in the community.
The couple was not home at the time when the fire began just before midnight Sunday.
Firefighters from more than a half-dozen volunteer departments responded to the blaze,
The large wood-frame structure was leveled.
The building was at one time the home of Dr. Hunter Blair.
It then became a community health centre and at the time of the fire housed a real estate company.
