UPDATE: Source Says Four Children Killed In Pubnico Head Fire, RCMP Yet To Confirm Number Of Fatalities

Four children have died after a house fire in Pubnico Head, a source close to the family confirmed to Acadia News.

RCMP say there were multiple fatalities as the result of an overnight fire in Yarmouth County but they are saying very little more.

Police received a 911 call just after midnight of a house fire on Highway 3 in Pubnico Head.

Cpl. Jennifer Clarke of the Nova Scotia RCMP spoke to Acadia News this afternoon at the Yarmouth Rural RCMP detachment on Starrs Road.

"The RCMP is in the preliminary stages of the investigation. The RCMP have secured the scene. We have called the Nova Scotia Office of the Fire Marshal to assist us in the investigation as well as RCMP Forensic Identification Services."

When asked by Acadia News for details on the number, ages and gender of the victims Cpl. Clarke said "I don't have that information at this time. I am not able to release that information."

Cpl. Clarke says the RCMP's Southwest Major Crimes Unit is conducting the investigating.

Firefighters from multiple departments battled the fire for about two hours.

RCMP remain on the scene There is a road closure on Lighthouse Road between the intersections of Highway 335 and the Pubnico Connector.
