Lobster and beer seems like a great combo but what about lobster in beer?

Hell Bay Brewing Company has just started a small batch of lobster beer to help celebrate the second annual South Shore Lobster Crawl Festival, which runs February 2 - 19.

Melanie Perron, co-owner of the Liverpool-based brewery, says the beer will be the first of its kind in the province.

"It'll be the first of its kind that we know of in Nova Scotia," says Perron. "There's an oyster stout already being made, we've seen donair beer."

The aim is to have it taste a little like a lobster roll with some citrus notes.

"I don't imagine much fish flavour, I imagine more so of the roasted shell flavour, you get a nice nutty flavour from the shell, so that's what I'm hoping, that it will sort of camaflouge in with the beer."

Perron says it's going to be a small batch in case it doesn't turn out as planned.

The beer will be called the South Shorer after the boat the lobster was caught on.

"I'm sure it's the first of a few Hell Bay is going to be playing around with this winter."

The brew goes on sale early February.
