Liberal leader Stephen McNeil believes he has had strong representation of women under his leadership.
McNeil says his party “has stood beside women to have them elected in meaningful ridings.”
He says 10 women were elected in 2013, more than any other political party.
“I want women in seats that we can win so I can appoint them to the executive council, McNeil says. “so all Nova Scotians can see themselves being reflected in their government.”
McNeil pointed to women who have held positions under his leadership including the minister of education, deputy premier and minister of community services.
Twelve women are running for the Liberal party in this year’s provincial election.
Meanwhile, the PC candidate for Queens-Shelburne says all 51 ridings are meaningful, not just ones according to Stephen McNeil.
Kim Masland says she’s disappointed by the premier’s comment.
“I really feel that the premier owes women in this province an apology for what he has said.”
Masland says she hopes more women will become informed and get engaged in politics.
