A spokesperson for a seniors advocacy group in Nova Scotia is pleased with an announcement from the federal government.
The federal government is now allowing a nurse practitioner to sign off on medical reports required to qualify for disability payments under the Canada Pension Plan.
Bill VanGorder, president of the Nova Scotia chapter of the Canadian Association of Retired Persons says the organization is very supportive of using nurse practitioners.
“Especially here in Nova Scotia where we have so few doctors and less of them all the time, anything that helps seniors get the care they need when they need is something we’re going to support.’
VanGorder says the federal government seems a little better at consulting with seniors organizations than their provincial counterparts.
He says CARP Nova Scotia still hasn’t been able to get a meeting with Randy Delorey since he was appointed health minister in June.
