The newest piece of lifesaving equipment at the Cornwall and District Fire Department won’t be riding on a truck.
A delicatessen chain is providing an AED to the fire hall.
Chief Michael Wilson says an auxiliary member applied to the second annual Chris Cares AED giveaway.
And the Department won the unit worth $3,500.
Chris Brothers began giving AED machines away after two of their employees experienced cardiac arrest and were saved because an AED unit was on hand to provide them with a shock.
Chief Michael Wilson says it’s an invaluable tool to allow people to save lives.
“These public-use ones are fully automated. They go as far as to tell you that you’re not doing your compressions during C.P.R. deep enough, to go a little deeper. It’s very straight-forward so that anyone can pick it up and use it successfully.”
Wilson says the AED unit is installed in the hall now.
