Commuters in the South Shore could soon have a new option to get to the city.
Maritime Bus made an application to the Utility and Review Board to approve a service which would travel between the towns of Bridgewater, Lunenburg and Mahone Bay and into Halifax.
Lunenburg MLA Suzanne Lohnes-Croft says this service has been needed for a long time.
“For a number of years we’ve been missing that connection to Halifax. As you know, we have an aging population, but we have a lot of youth who are going to educational institutions and just people everyday needing transportation.”
Lohnes-Croft says the 18-month pilot project still needs to be approved by the UARB.
And she’s applied for funding from the department for Seniors and Communities, Culture and Heritage.
If all goes well, Lohnes-Croft says the service will be in place for September first.
