The family of convicted child killer Penny Boudreau are outraged she has been granted escorted leave from prison.
Wendy Whalen speaks for the Boudreau family.
She says they were shocked to learn Penny Boudreau had been granted escorted leave to attend church services.
“Knowing Penny Boudreau the way that we know Penny Boudreau, and the person that she really is, this is just a way that she can manipulate the system in her favour.”
Whalen feels Boudreau is trying to make herself look good to the parole board when she is eligible to meet with them after serving 15 years of her sentence.
Whalen says the family wasn’t notified by the parole board and found out about her release though social media.
But they aren’t laying blame.
“It was an oversight. They weren’t aware that they needed to be registered as victims. It was a hard lesson to learn for them, but now they’re in the process of going through the proper channels and registering like they should’ve been in the beginning.”
Whalen says Penny Boudreau should have to serve her full life sentence for killing her own daughter, Karissa.
A group supporting the family has started a petition to have Boudreau’s leave revoked.
The hashtag #GiveKarissaAVoice has also been started to show support.
