Twenty people who make a difference in the South Shore were honoured yesterday.
MP Bernadette Jordan awarded them with each with a Canada 150 pin.
The pins were forged from the copper taken from the roof of one of the Parliament buildings during renovations.
Jordan says she wanted to recognize community volunteers.
“We looked at things like inclusion and diversity. We looked at reconcilliation. We talked about youth, environment, all things that are really important to our government.”
Jordan says there are so many people who deserved to be honoured.
“I had a number of really good quality nominations. And that’s the hard part, is picking. You look at the nominations and go, oo, they’re so good too though.”
Jordan says five judges from across the riding chose the winners from the list of nominations they received.
She says the diversity of award winners shows how involved people in the South Shore are in every aspect of their communities.
Nine winners were present to receive their awards and Jordan says the rest will receive theirs at a later time.
