Queens-Shelburne MLA Kim Masland says the emergency room closures at Roseway have got to stop.
The emergency room was shut again from 6:00 Friday night until 8:00 Saturday morning.
Masland says each week she’s been sitting in the legislature, she’s raised the issue with the Health Minister.
She says on Thanksgiving, hospital staff had to call 9-1-1 for a three year-old boy brought in with seizures because there were no doctors there to treat him.
“The doors of the Roseway are closed more than they’re open. It’s unbelievable. Every time I get a message from Nova Scotia Health Authority, it’s telling me that Roseway doors are closed. And it’s gone on way too long.”
Masland says the situation at Roseway is a crisis and she has issued a strong warning.
“How frightening it is to know that, you don’t know if you have access to an ER. It’s between life and death. And sadly, somebody, if this is not fixed, somebody is going to die.”
Masland says Shelburne residents are being treated as second class citizens and she wants government to address the staffing issue before someone is killed.
