The former Oakhill Sawmill site has been sold.
Chris Boyd purchased the 92-acre property for $235,000.
The sale closed on March 23.
Resolute Forest Products previously owned the land until it ceased operations of the sawmill in 2012, resulting in 125 jobs lost.
Boyd says he is impressed by the property.
“I’ve been involved in business for sometime and this is a marketable asset, there is no question about it.There is a very impressive community and local workforce here and I think there is a tremendous amout of potential.”
Boyd hopes to exploit that potential following 10-12 months of clean-up ranging from dismantling equipment left on site to refurbishing existing buildings.
He says the property was essentially left untouched.
“Emptying buildings and disposing of assets before we can fully get focused on my core business, which is the sale of used heavy equipment.”
Boyd says he feels there could be an avenue for logistics companies to use some of the space for storage.
But, he says more planning and discussions are needed to explore all options.
