The Council to Improve Classroom Conditions has released its initial recommendations.
Established by the province to answer concerns brought up by teachers during the latest round of contract negotiations, they met for the first time over three days this week.
They discussed reducing the amount of time teachers spend on adminstrative work or data entry, student attendance, and reporting on student evaluations.
The council says teachers are concerned that by instantly publishing overall term marks they could be misinterpreted, causing stress to students and parents.
They suggest assigning a point in the month to post marks so a more complete picture can be produced.
Council says teachers also want realistic expectations around how quickly they should be responding to e-mails.
They’re suggesting allowing teachers to send an automated response and give two days to respond to the request.
The council will continue its discussions over four days next month (April 18-20 and April 27) when they meet to prepare their initial report to be presented at the end of April.
