An art and craft show will go a long way to help repair a Queens County beacon.
This is the seventh year for the Lighthouse Awareness Art and Craft Show in Port Medway.
The fundraiser, organized by the Medway Head Lighthouse Society, includes work from artists that include paintings, sculptures and quilts.
Committee member, Susan Letson, says it’s a fun and special event.
“We usually have over 60 Nova Scotia artists who sel ltheir work within our theme, which is ‘What the Lighthouse Seas.’ The artists generally donate a portion of their sales to the lighthouse society.”
The 10-day art and craft show is held from August 18-27.
Letson says proceeds from the show are used to repair the beacon.
“The windows, siding and etc take such a beating from our weather and eventually we would like to make interior improvements and setup a display related to the history of the lighthouse.”
The federal government relinquished responsibility of 970 lighthouses across Canada in 2010 and the society took over ownership of the Medway Head Lighthouse in 2013.
