Ninety-five thousand dollars in awards were presented at the Creative Nova Scotia Awards Gala earlier this month.
Lunenburg County resident, Jay Crocker, took home a piece of it.
Crocker received the new Emerging Artist Recognition Award for his installation piece.
Crocker says it also functions as an instrument.
“It’s 16 amplified, motorized and modified music boxes that hang in a configuration of 16 cells in the ceiling or above the audience or gallery participants.”
Crocker was nominated by the Anna Leonowens Art Gallery in Halifax.
His work was on display as part of the Obey Convention – a music and visual art festival.
He moved to Crousetown from Alberta six years ago.
Crocker says it’s a more isolated environment and it’s helped him focus on his work.
