The RCMP has charged one of their own with sexual assault.
Constable Charles Quartey is accused of touching a woman in a sexual manner in Auburn in 1995.
Quartery was posted to the Bridgetown detachment at the time.
He is currently suspended from his posting in the Northwest Territories.
Information discovered in the course of an unrelated investigation led to the charges against Quartery.
Corporal Jennifer Clarke says the RCMP doesn’t want to lose the public’s trust.
“I think it’s difficult for everyone. But of course, we want the public to trust the police and it’s a difficult situation for sure,“ says Clarke. “I’m very proud that the community where I live and work hold me to a higher standard because I’m a member of the RCMP. And it’s difficult to know that one among us – has been alleged that this has happened.”
Quartey will appear in Kentville Provincial Court on September 27th.
