When fishermen lost at sea are remembered in Lunenburg next month, a local woman hopes to leave a more personal reminder.
Since losing her brother Greg 45 years ago, Susie Whynacht has attended the service each year.
She says the symbolism of flowers being dropped in the sea is beautiful, but she'd like something left on land as well.
"A single red rose. If you look at the veteran's monument when they have their service, they take off all their poppies and they leave them around the monument and it is quite spectacular. It is something to see. Why can't we do that at the monument?"
Whynacht has spoken with the town and they support the idea.
She hopes this could be the start of a new tradition.
