A full house gathered in Lunenburg last night to discuss water issues within the town.
Experts presented information on bio-filters for the wastewater plant, water infrastructure and the quality of water in the harbour.
Shanna Fredericks with Bluenose Coastal Action says her group will partner with the town to monitor the water quality in the harbour.
She says people should remember the harbour’s primary use is industrial, but they will be paying special attention to where people interact directly with the water.
“Doing some more frequent sampling at the boat launch where the town is actually inviting people to launch boats and get into the water. So there’s a higher risk factor there.”

The event was spirited at times as residents and presenters held an unplanned informal discussion after the presentations.
Mayor Rachel Bailey says she understands people are tired of hearing about the need to study a problem.
“I’m tired of it too, but it’s a necessity, it really is. Just like it takes time to gather good scientific data to determine the right solution to a problem, it takes time to understand what a problem is in order to design the right solution.”
Bailey committed the town to holding more meetings like this one as water issues in the town are addressed.
