Nova Scotia’s Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development says the government is serious about following through with recommendations brought forward by the Council to Improve Classroom Conditions.
Karen Casey says that’s why eight recommendations will be acted upon right away.
On Thursday Rollie Hannem, president of the Yarmouth local of the NSTU, said teachers are worried the Liberals are only using the council as “pre-election window dressing.”
Casey says they are committed to improving classroom conditions.
“This council was designed, and as part of an outcome of negotiations, where the focus of those classroom teachers would be specific to solution. Our government identified education as a priority in 2013, and have invested heavily in education in the last three budgets. We see that continuing in the next budget.”
Casey says the council members have worked very hard and will continue to do so for the next two years.
The council will meet again later this month.
