Drinking straight from a liquor bottle while driving led to drunk driving charges for a Middlewood man.
A concerned citizen called RCMP after observing a man swerving between lanes, while drinking from a liquor bottle on Conquerall Mills Road at 11 AM yesterday.
Sergeant David Ferguson with Lunenburg District RCMP, says they located the vehicle on Conquerall Mills Road and arrested the man.
Ferguson says they took the 49-year-old man to the detachment and administered a breathalyzer test.
“Those samples showed that the male’s blood alcohol concentration was almost three times the legal limit.”
Ferguson also confirmed that after a search of the vehicle they found a bottle of alcohol.
He says drinking and driving can happen at any time.
“That’s why we wanted to get it out there, just to show people this is still going on, it doesn’t have to be 2 o’clock in the morning, it can be 11 o’clock in the morning.”
The man is scheduled to appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court on May 2.
The man has not been named because he has not appeared in court yet and charges have yet to be laid.
However, Ferguson says he will face charges of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operate a Motor Vehicle Over the Legal Limit.
RCMP is encouraging people who suspect someone of drinking and driving, to call 911.
