A popular event for runners and walkers is coming up in Riverport.
The Osprey five kilometre walk or run event has more than 230 people registered this year.
It features plenty of local participants but also draws many from across the province as a Run Nova Scotia Performance Series event.
Race Director, Kristi Strowbridge, says this is their 13th year.
“It started as a fundraiser for the elementary school and has evolved over time,” says Strowbridge.
“The school closed and it became a fundraiser for the Riverport and District Community Centre and PRO Kids as well.”
Strowbridge says they raised $3,500 last year and adds they have a crowd-pleasing race course.
“It’s actually known among runners and walkers across the province as being one of the flattest Run Nova Scotia runs,” she says.
“You start at the Community Centre and it’s very flat. You run toward Oxner’s Beach and then back. It’s a straight out-and-back course.”
The event begins Saturday at the Riverport and District Community Centre at 10 a.m.
Race day registration gets underway at 9 a.m and costs $27.
