Lunenburg County Girl Gives Back On Her Birthday

A young Conquerall Mills girl hopes other kids catch on to a new birthday party trend.

Ellison Rowter recently turned seven.

She and her mother Anne, asked all of Ellison's friends not to buy cards or gifts for the birthday girl - just bring $10 and draw a picture.

Anne says many parents are opting for the $5 or $10 party as it's less wasteful and a load off parents.

Ellison agrees.

"We already have enough toys," says Ellison.

Ellison took half of her birthday money and donated it to SHAID Tree Animal Shelter.

Anne says Ellison has been learning about the importance of volunteering and charity at her school - Centre Scolaire de la Rive Sud.

Ellison told her mom she wants to do the same thing next year, except this time with all of her birthday money.

And she already has a charity picked out.

"I know where I want to do it ... the food bank," she says.

Ellison and her mom delivered $75 to SHAID Tree last week, where Ellison got to hold a very fluffy cat.
