South Shore Regional Libraries are warning about a scam that’s popped up in Lunenburg County.
They’ve received complaints about someone calling and demanding payment of long overdue late fees.
Deputy Chief Librarian Geoff Mercer says there are a number of ways to identify the calls as fake.
But he says the most obvious one is they don’t charge late fees.
“The only thing we charge for is if you’ve had a book so long that we think you’ve lost it or something like that and we charge for that. But, again, all that communication is done by email and even then it’s not a late fee it a charge for a lost item.
Mercer says if you receive a call like this don’t give up your credit card info.
He says try to take in as much detail as possible and then call the library.
Once they have enough info, he say they’ll be turning it over to the police.
