As crowds flock to tall ships in Lunenburg this weekend it isn’t just the public that is excited.
Maggie Ostler from Picton Castle says the regatta is a great opportunity to get to know sailors from around the world.
She says in their travels, they’re often the only ship around for miles.
“It’s very cool for us to be part of a fleet for a while and get to know some of the other people from the other ships and sort of realize that there is a community of people who do this, and care about this, and are really passionate about this.”
Ostler says the social events organized for the crews by the local ports has been a highlight of the trip.
“It’s a really nice opportunity for all the crew from all the vessels to sit down together and get to know one and other and make friends and have weird conversations about how to furl sails that 99% of the population just wouldn’t understand.”
She says they’ll be sitting down to supper in Lunenburg to talk sailing and swap stories.
