Dayspring Christmas Supper Cancelled This Year

The Dayspring Community Christmas Supper is cancelled this year.

Positions like Head Chef and Main Organizer are vacant and there is no one to step up and fill the void.

Frank Fawson, committee chair for the dinner, says he's sad to see it cancelled this year because it built a sense of community.

"In the bigger picture, our sense of community is a little more fragmented these days where people often work elsewhere, or sometimes have to relocate to work," he says.

"Things like this bring up together and help to build stronger communities."

Fawson says this is bittersweet for him.

"I'd like to spend more time with my family members and so forth," he says.

"The other side of it is, I spend a lot of energy trying to build community and bring people together, and a sense of community, so that will be lost this year."

The event started in 2011 and has served over 700 people.

The supper is usually served at 3 pm and volunteers wouldn't be able to start their Christmas until close to 8 at night.

Fawson says it was just a matter of wanting to spend time with family.

The committee will be meeting in the new year to see if the event will be held in 2018.
