Lunenburg will dig deep this summer as they make sewer and water upgrades to the town.
Councillors raised concerns that construction will take place during the busy Folk Harbour Festival and Tall Ships weekends.
Work on Lincoln Street between King and Kempt will run from May through July and on Pelham between Hopson and Shipyard Road Hill from August until October.
Deputy Mayor Peter Mosher says the town has planned for the inconvenience.
“We’ll have Lincoln done and closed up with the first layer of pavement on it. And then Pelham, we’re looking at, perhaps, just for that week during the festival, that it will be at least passable, with gravel.”
Estimated costs for the projects are close to $3.5 million.
The town will pay a quarter of that, with the province and federal government picking up the rest.
Mosher says the offer was too good to pass up.
“It’s unfortunate it has to happen all at once. But it’s such a good opportunity with the federal and provincial funding and it can be done for 25 cents on the dollar – so it’s a good thing.”
