Funding for the United Way of Lunenburg County is down almost 50%.
Coordinator Michael Graves says they only have about $90,000 to give out this year, compared to almost $175,000 last year.
“The only people it’s really going to hurt are the people living on the edge, the people living in poverty or just on the other side of poverty,” he says. “So, it’s going to affect quite a few programs unfortunately.”
The United Way gives money to a variety of programs helping primarily women and children.
Graves says their main source of funds come from work place partnerships where people can sign up to give a few dollars from every paycheck.
He says if every working person in Lunenburg County agreed to give four dollars a month they would raise over a million dollars a year.
