The leader of Nova Scotia’s opposition party is stepping down.
Jamie Baillie announced he submitted his official notice to Progressive Conservative Party President Tara Miller this morning.
Baillie will remain leader of the party until a replacement has been selected, and he will continue to be the MLA for Cumberland South.
In a video message, Baillie says it’s time for he and his family to write a new chapter in their lives.
“So for all of you who I’ve met over these past seven wonderful years, thank you for your support and the kindness you have constantly shown to me and my family.”
Baillie became party leader on October 30, 2010.
Baillie says the PC Party is in great shape, and he has no doubt they will win the next provincial election.
He says Nova Scotia is a great province with a wonderful future, and he will continue to work on issues he believes in like mental health and growing the economy.
The party will meet in the coming weeks to discuss the process and details for selecting a new leader, as laid out in the constitution.
Thank you for an incredible seven years. #nspoli pic.twitter.com/QXX9l79CA8
