The pre-primary program in Lunenburg has found a home.
The old Lunenburg Academy will once again echo with the sounds of children after the South Shore Centre for Education announced it will host four-year-olds enrolled in the program this September.
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development announced earlier this spring that pre-primary would be coming to Bluenose Academy.
However, the school doesn’t have the space to accommodate the program.
SSRCE Regional Executive Director Paul Ash says the program will be run on the top floor away from the library and other tenants.
“Going into a building that was a previous school actually works as an advantage to us here.”
Ash says the old Academy ticked a lot of boxes.
“Proximity to a washroom, access to a kitchen area, drop off/ pick up spaces. All of those things are looked at to determine whether or not a site is suitable for us to be able to offer the early years program.”
Some members of the community had expressed concerns the school year was winding down and they didn’t know where they would be sending their children in the fall.
Families within the catchment area can enrol by filling out a form at Bluenose Academy.
An orientation date will be set for August for parents will be to meet the Early Childhood Educators and tour the location.
The Pre-Primary Program will begin operation at Lunenburg Academy September 5, 2019.
