It’s been over two years in the making but the owners of Lighthouse Motel and Cottages feel they have a diamond in the rough.
Joseph Gogas and Marc Daoust took over ownership of the Conquerall Bank property in April 2017.
The motel was built in the 1950s.
The two moved to Nova Scotia from Toronto and estimate they have spent close to $200,000 renovating their motel rooms, boathouse studios and riverfront cottage.
Daoust says the South Shore was a perfect location for their vision of a nostalgic place to stay.
“We just kind of wanted to restore it back to the original mid-century, 1950s building. We kept it as a classic roadside motel but with a modern twist to it.”
The motel sits on three acres of property with 500 feet of LaHave River shoreline.
And although it’s been a labour of love, Daoust admits there are still tweaks to be made over the next year or two before it is a finished product.
