A Mahone Bay resident is the first recipient of a $1,000 bursary to honour one of the people killed in the Humboldt Broncos crash.
An award has been established at NSCC in the name of the team’s play-by-play announcer Tyler Bieber.
It’s presented to a student entering the Radio, Television, Journalism course.
Evan Hennigar describes how he as selected.
“So I pretty much just wrote an essay on how the Humboldt Broncos crash affected me and our generation. ‘Cause we all rode that bus to hockey one day.”
Hennigar has already spent time in front of the camera as an actor.
As a former hockey player he already has an idea where he would like to work.
“I definitely want to go into sports. The main dream is professional hockey player, but sports, hockey announcer is second best.”
Hennigar will be looking to pursue that career in sports announcing once he graduates in two years.
