The South Shore is getting some recognition as the Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl and Tourism Nova Scotia made the finals for the national 2019 Explore Canada Awards of Excellence.
The festival and Tourism Nova Scotia are one of three finalists for the Destination Canada award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to storytelling that inspires travelers to visit and explore Canada.
The Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl takes festival goers on a tour across the South Shore to try savory Lobster dishes and South Shore drinks.
Menna Riley, Festival Director for the NS Lobster Crawl, says the festival’s early success since its creation in 2018, comes from its unique activities and placement in the late months of winter.
“We’re creating experiences all around the South Shore, and it’s not happening in the summer but during lobster season, which is something a lot different than people are used to seeing,” she said.
Riley says they hope the new publicity from the awards will get people to think of spending time in the South Shore outside of the typical tourist season.
“We want the South Shore to be known as a year-round destination,” she said.
“Obviously we get an amazing amount of people visiting not only Nova Scotia, but specifically the South Shore in the summer months. We are just trying to say, ‘Hey, we’re over here having a great time all year around.'”
