There’s a new head of emergency response in Lunenburg county.
Angela Henhoeffer is the area’s new Regional Emergency Management Coordinator.
She’s already worked in the role in Fort McMurray and most recently up the road in Windsor.
Henhoeffer says people often have the false idea that disasters can’t happen here.
“We’ve seen other disasters here in Nova Scotia. We’ve got hurricanes, we’ve had road disasters and things that can impact people and if we’re not prepared and not aware of what can actually happen, that’s where the challenges can lie.”
Henhoeffer will coordinate efforts between first responders and municipals departments.
She says government has to ready themselves for emergency situations but so does the general public.
“Making sure that they’ve got their preparedness kits, that they can be prepared for 72 hours so that those kinds of things can actually be taken care of prior to an emergency.”
Henhoeffer is currently focusing on introducing herself to the various stakeholders.
She says as she gets settled in, she will begin to work on campaigns to educate the public on how to prepare for emergencies.
