The Municipality of Chester is doing its part to make sure they have a sufficient supply of water for now and the future.
The municipality is creating a water strategy and action plan.
It will look at different key areas including water supply, conservation, protection, and initiating a drought management plan.
Warden Allen Webber says it will be a broad approach to making changes.
“Where are we at the moment? What are the issues? What are the potential solutions? And what is it that we should do or shouldn’t do to ensure that we don’t make it worse?”
Webber says he is aware of one issue during dry spells.
He says he can visit three homes in the same area and two will have lots of water and one will have none.
Public consultation on the strategy will be held this fall with an expected implementation late this year or in early 2020.
“But, that doesn’t mean that we won’t continue to provide loans for upgrades to wells,” says Webber.
“It doesn’t mean that we won’t continue to provide water and it doesn’t mean that we won’t take action as required when the opportunity exists.”
A water strategy and action team will also be created to help address current and future needs and attract community partners like Coastal Action, the Department of Environment and Nova Scotia Groundwater Association.
