The days of soaking in the sun by the pool are over as Bridgewater’s outdoor pool locked up for the year Sunday.
A little later in the year than usual, the O’Reagan’s Subaru Outdoor Pool closed out its swimming season Sunday evening with an extra free weekend swim, giving kids an extra chance to take a dip before shutting down for the year.
Diana Johnson, recreation coordinator for the Town of Bridgewater, says they usually close a few days earlier, but with the delayed opening this year they wanted to extend the season for a few days.
“In general, we were probably delayed by 7-8 days,” she said.
“We did extend our ‘Everybody Welcome Swim by about an hour during last week, and then the extra two days this weekend gave us a few days back so we hope that was appreciated by most.”
Despite the late opening, Johnson says the summer went off without a hitch.
“I think generally we had a great summer,” she said. “Most of the open swim’s were quite busy, especially with all the hot weather we had. Everybody loved the fact the pool was looking much better as well, and the TLC we put into it hit people in a positive way.”
With cooler weather and staff getting ready to return to school, Johnson says it was a good time to shut down, but thanks to the renovations conducted on the pool last year, it should be ready to reopen near Canada Day 2020.
