December kicks off with some winter weather that will leave roads slick over the next few days.
Monday is when most of the snow is expected to fall, though it may not last.
Ian Hubbard a meteorologist with Environment Canada says people are more likely to wake up to their cars covered in ice than snow.
“We have a system coming in from the south that should hit the South Shore around midnight. It could bring freezing rain and if you’re closer to the coast it could just be rain.”
Monday’s snow started to fall around 10 a.m. but the forecast calls for it to change to rain later in the afternoon, taking with it most of the snow.
On Tuesday, a significant amount of rain or freezing rain is in the forecast, with 20-30 millimeters expected.
Wednesday is when we are due for some respite from precipitation but things are expected to start up again Thursday with showers in the forecast.
