Things are going to get a bit fishy in the South Shore next month.
The annual Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl Festival is entering its third year and is hoping to make this year bigger and better than before.
Menna Riley, festival director says the festival has always attempted to showcase the best the South Shore has to offer in lobster with themed dinning, accommodations, events and tours of lobster pounds.
“We actually have a lobster pound down in Barrington, and they have an outdoor tidal pool where they store the lobster,” she said.
“So you get to learn a lot about the lobster fishing industry as well as having all of these incredible culinary experiences.”
She says there are over 150 events and experiences planned for next month – a large growth from the 60 they had in their first year.
This year, they have a special section of events and dinning choices dedicated to lobster rolls.
“When you talk lobster roll on the south shore, you can get into a pretty heated discussion,” she laughed.
“This year, its all about getting people to check out who has lobster rolls on the South Shore and then maybe they can make their own top ten list on who has the best.”
Highlights pinned for next month’s festival include the third annual Lobster Roll-Off, lobster fishing opportunities, a clam chowder competition and a visit from Lucy the Lobster on Groundhogs Day.
The Lobster Crawl kicks off January 31 and runs throughout February. More information can be found at www.lobstercrawl.ca.
