WWE Hall of Famer Rocky ‘Soul Man’ Johnson has passed away.
The Nova Scotian wrestler and former champion died on Wednesday at the age of 75.
Born Wade Douglas Bowles, Johnson was originally raised in Amherst and began his wrestling career after leaving home and moving to Toronto.
He made his World Wide Wrestling Federation debut in the late 60’s.
Along side Tony Atlas, the two created the Soul Patrol and went on to become the first black World Tag Team Champions in the WWE in 1983.
Johnson retired in 1991 to focus on training his son, actor and former WWE champion Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Johnson was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008.
