Saltbox Brewing Company are expanding their operations into Lunenburg, this time focusing on cider.
The proposed location, called Lightship Point is looking to build on a lot near the tip of Lunenburg’s harbour on Tannery Rd. The lot is currently owned by ABCO who are planning their own expansions in the area.
Dawn Sutherland, planner for the Town of Luneburg says they have received building permits for the cidery and it appears to conform to the Architectural Protection Zone.
Co-founder of Saltbox Brewing Patrick Jardine says when designing the location they wanted to stay faithful to the area. “We used some old pictures of small wharves with small buildings on it as you see all around.” He add’s “There will be a lot of different spaces for guests to move around and sit outside to enjoy some cider.” With a clear aesthetic goal set Saltbox contracted Logan Amos Architecture & Design to design the building.
The company has experimented with cider before but not to this scope. Jardine says the location on Tannery Road will be equipped to brew on-site, specifically focusing on ciders and beers aged in wood barrels.
The company estimates that during the Summer months they will employ around 10 people
