South Shore residents gave more than just a few gifts from the heart during the health Services Foundation’s radiothon last week.
The tenth annual Gift From The Heart Radiothon set an all-time high record for donations this year, with a total of $200,274.64 in 12 hours.
The initial goal of $150,000 was set to cover the purchase and installation of 25 ceiling lifts for the Medical & Medical/Surgical Units at South Shore Regional Hospital.
The lifts have been a wish and need of the medical staff at South Shore Regional Hospital for a long time.
“Once the public understood the need and heard of it from medical professionals themselves, they jumped on board,” Alison Clements, development officer for the Health Service Foundation of the South Shore said.
“This radiothon was all about making situations for patients better and giving our medical professionals on the South Shore the tools they need to make their job easier and we all did it.”
Clements notes the excess funds will stay in the foundation’s Surgery Floor Fund to go towards future upgrades.
This year’s event officially brought the total funds raised over the last ten years above the $1 million mark.
