Changes to municipal waste collection will allow Lunenburg County residents to get rid of bulky items year-round.
Starting April 1st, the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg will allow residents to get rid of two landfill items every two weeks, eliminating the need for Spring and Fall cleaning.
Mayor Carolyn Bolivar-Getson says the changes will reduce hazardous roadside conditions and keep residents from storing large garbage items for six months at a time.
She also says the changes will save the municipality around $300,000 yearly, or $1.8 million over the six-year waste contract.
Items that can be placed on curbs include furniture, toilets, sinks and other household items. Metal and wood collection will begin in the Fall.
MODL says items like de-humidifiers, freezers and fridges cannot be collected, and need to be brought to the Lunenburg Regional Community Recycling Centre.
