The Federal Government is doing all it can to make sure our front-line workers are protected as they fight COVID-19.
The Minister of Public Services and Procurement, Anita Anand, explains that Public Services and Procurement Canada is aggressively buying in bulk from all available suppliers.
“To date, we have ordered millions of swabs, gloves, masks and other vital equipment,” says Anand, “…and have managed to secure more than 157 million surgical masks.”
She goes on to explain that those aren’t the only masks they’ve ordered.
“We have also ordered more than 60 million N95 masks, a key piece of protection for health care workers.”
When it comes to ventilators, Anand says that like the masks they are on their way.
“We have a significant order through Thornhill Medical in Toronto that’s part of the 1,570 ventilators already ordered. We’re also working on securing an additional 4,000 ventilators, and quite possibly even more.”
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced earlier today that Canada has set aside $2 billion to buy personal protective equipment for front-line health care workers.
