If you walk through the village of New Germany these days you will find the streets virtually empty as people practice self isolation and social distancing.
These steps are all part of flattening the COVID-19 curve, and many people are finding it difficult being cooped up. It can be especially hard for young children who don’t understand what is happening or why it is necessary.
Along with other community members Judi Colp formed a Facebook support group called caring For Each Other-New Germany and Area as a way to stay connected and do good in the community.
With that in mind and Easter fast approaching she decided to hold an Easter Egg hunt for the children in the community. Colp has two young granddaughters herself and said being stuck at home with no contact with their friends except by phone or Internet is hard.
“Easter is such a social time and usually there are all kinds of events planned but those have all been cancelled now. Bridgewater is doing a bear hunt so I thought what can New Germany do that is different and give kids a little fun? ” she said.
Starting April 5 she is asking residents to place a picture of an Easter egg in a window facing the street so kids can spot them easily.
“Parents can take their kids for a walk, while practicing social distancing, and write down the address of where they find an egg so we can keep track of who finds the most eggs. You can also drive around and look for eggs,” she said.
Eggs can be left up until April 12.
