With COVID-19 more sanitary products like sanitary wipes are being used, which can put a strain on water infrastructure.
The Municipality of Chester sent out a reminder to its residents saying that products like wipes and other paper products are not suitable for their water system.
While many wipes are marketed as “biodegradable” or “flushable” the municipality says they can still cause significant damage.
In recent weeks they say they have seen more wipes appearing in their central sewer system.
To properly dispose of sanitary wipes the municipality says they should be disposed of with other garbage and put out for collection on the appropriate day.
Similar releases were sent out by both The Municipality of The District of Lunenburg and The Municipality of The District of Shelburne
