Premier Stephen McNeil announced last week that police are now able to ticket people not observing physical distancing or self-isolation.
That means forces like the Bridgewater Police Service can now give out tickets that cost around $700 dollars.
Sargent Danny McPhee with the Bridgewater Police Service says initially they were lenient but that time has passed “In the first few days we were able to give tickets we continued to warn people, but now enough time has gone by that people should know it’s the law.”
Anyone not observing social distancing or mandatory self-isolation orders should be prepared to receive a ticket now according to McPhee.
“It’s everywhere in the media 24/7 so ignorance is no longer an excuse,” McPhee says.
So far no tickets have been issued in Bridgewater but across the province, they are starting to be issued with four in Dartmouth on Thursday along with two in Truro.
