A local coffee shop is bringing some Easter cheer to front line medical staff this weekend.
The Barn in Mahone Bay is visiting the South Shore Regional Hospital over the Easter weekend to deliver chocolates, healthy snacks and fresh coffee to medical workers dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Amelia Bishop, co-owner of The Barn, said the idea came after customers began sending them money to cover orders for front line workers.
“We’ve been loading our Barn gift cards with the donations, so every time we have someone at the door or at the window who is a front line worker, we just tell them its on the house or on the people of the South Shore,” she said.
While the gesture is small, Bishop said the free coffee has been very appreciated by workers who are deemed essential during these trying times.
“There is a woman who my husband served this morning before we opened who is in construction and still has to work. She got her coffee covered and kind of teared up,” she said.
“It makes you think ‘Wow, these gestures can really impact a person’s day.'”
However, Bishop felt they could do more, and the plan to bring a free order of goods to the hospital came together after receiving support from both their customers and the Awesome Foundation of the South Shore.
Bishop hopes more people will make donations so they can continue covering orders front line workers both this weekend and into the weeks ahead.
