Nova Scotia will likely be left out of the initial bubble between New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island that has been proposed due to relatively high case numbers.
Premier Stephen McNeil says that Nova Scotia is involved in discussion with the other Atlantic provinces but our situation is unique.
“When we look at the region we have the largest metropolitan area and it’s been hit hard,” McNeil said.
Other Atlantic provinces, specifically New Brunswick, will face pressure to reopen the Nova Scotia border from their own residents who are looking to travel.
“With all due respect to my colleagues and the other provinces, Nova Scotia is the crown jewel of the East Coast, so obviously there are going to be people who want to access this part of the country.”
The Premier also said there are many people across Atlantic Canada who own properties in more than one Atlantic province. According to the Premier, the government is looking into this issue as well but in order to open borders, Nova Scotia needs to see continued progress in case numbers.
As it stands anyone entering Nova Scotia from another province is required to self-isolate for 14 days.
