Many businesses across Nova Scotia have already installed plexiglass safety shields, such as the Bridgewater NSLC.
The Nova Scotia government is looking into a program that would cover the costs of protective equipment installations.
In response to COVID-19 many businesses have begun installing equipment like plexiglass barriers in order to protect their staff and customers.
Some provinces like New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island have already established grants to help businesses pay for new safety equipment.
Premier Stephen McNeil says Nova Scotia is currently exploring but he was not willing to divulge any details.
“We want to keep things flexible some companies have used barriers some are using distancing,” McNeil said when asked if the government would consider mandating plexiglass barriers for businesses.
PEI’s program, the COVID-19 Workspace Adaption Assistance Fund is available to non-profits, and non-governmental organizations with some exceptions. They identified four sectors where this type of funding would not be suitable; agriculture, aquaculture, fisheries and real estate developers.
The grant covers physical changes to work spaces, personal protective equipment and signage. It does not cover the cost of cleaning products or services and any purchases before March 16 are ineligible.
